This work presents a grid of 27 instant photographs depicting Lake Matheson, situated in New Zealand’s South Island West Coast region. Renowned for its reflections of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, the lake attracts a substantial number of tourists who capture very similar images from designated and directed photo locations.

Romantic landscape photography prioritises the sublime, seeking dramatic lighting and atmospheric conditions such as fog and mist to evoke emotional responses, often aimed at sharing online. It captures nature’s untamed grandeur, reminiscent of historical landscape paintings.

View of Views invites contemplation on photography as an instrument for distant and pure aesthetic framing of the landscape, transforming it into an object of visual consumption and manipulation while disregarding human intervention, social narratives, or indigenous connections.
